The City of Johns Creek lies along the banks of the historic Chattahoochee River. The new city of Johns Creek is located just to the east of Alpharetta in northeast Fulton County and is home to numerous inviting neighborhoods and country clubs.
Johns Creek was born in 1981. The founders of Technology Park/Atlanta bought 1,700 acres of rural land along McGinnis Ferry Road and Medlock Bridge Road to build a second campus/master planned community. They named their mixed use community Technology Park/Johns Creek. In the 80s and 90s a sizable amount of the professionals migrated to Metro Atlanta for its low cost of living and high employment base. This migration saw a major settlement in the Johns Creek area, and by 2000, Johns Creek was slowly developing into a city. In November 2006, the City's first elected officials were voted into office, and the City of Johns Creek became official December 1, 2006. Johns Creek is now home to 200 companies.
Local points of interest in Johns Creek include the National Park Service's Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, Autrey Mill Nature Preserve & Heritage Center,Johns Creek Arts Center and the new 45-acre Encore Park in nearby Alpharetta, home to Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre.
Johns Creek has nearly 300 subdivision neighborhoods. Johns Creek's 19 public middle and elementary schools provide excellent programs for K-8th grade students. The Fulton County School System provides a number of public education options for high school-aged (9th-12th grades) Johns Creek residents, including: four high schools located in or immediately adjacent to Johns Creek, an Alternative High School in Roswell, and three Charter Schools.
